PIP-29: Restructuring Paladin - The rebranding

TL-DR: This is part 3 of the DAO restructuring - it introduces a new brand for the DAO in order to clarify our value proposition, as well as unify our multiple products under one umbrella.

Context:
Over the past 4 years, we’ve all grown attached to Paladin and its mascot. However, it had numerous flaws. Beyond its nerdy vibe, the multiple projects with non descriptive names (Dullahan, Warden, Quest, Warlord…) confused users more than anything else.

With the success of Rings, it’s become glaringly obvious that this branding was not adapted to our current needs, as more people knew a two month old project, who has now more than 8500 followers on X, compared to Paladin, a four year old brand with only 6000 followers.

Now that Rings and Paladin products are officially managed under the same DAO, we are set with a new problem:

  • Does Paladin absorb Rings? We do not believe it makes sense for the worse quality brand to take over;
  • Does Rings absorb Paladin? We feel uncomfortable in scaling the product to the size we expect it with such brand, as it doesn’t sound professional enough;

The only additional outcome left is to create a new brand that can encompass both our ambition and history. Without further ado, we’re proposing rebranding Paladin into Trevee, liquidity’s conduit:

Reasoning:
When it became clear that Paladin needed to rebrand, we realised it would not be a full rebrand without changing names. Considering Rings reached 100M$+ TVL in 2 months, it has the potential to become a DeFi blue chip, and more. For this reason we need a name that sounds serious, while keeping the Paladin DNA. The name also needs to be pronunciable from most languages, easy to say, have a strong SEO and a good ticker.

Paladin just didn’t fit the bill on most of these, and Rings was even worse in terms of SEO. Additionally, both have similarly named projects, just in our industry.

Trevee is a direct reference to the fountain of Trevi, modernised with a double “E”. It is fairly easy to say and write, and with the modernized spelling, it has no similarly named projects and a great SEO. We chose the reference to a fountain as all our products are tackling liquidity issues, and fountains seem like a beautiful allegory of what we’re trying to build. Trevi is one of the most popular fountains in the world, and has good folklore around it: people leaving the city throw coins in its basin, hoping it will realize their dreams. We like the parallel with Rings’ savings solutions. Hence Trevee, and since tickers can have 6 letters: $TREVEE.

As for the logo, we hesitated between a lot of different versions that you can find here:

We went with number 7 because it felt more symbolic than the other, but we are open to changing if the community feels strongly about another option.

Next steps:

  • Bake the rebrand in the new UI;
  • Build a new landing page;
  • Rename X accounts

Love the :fountain: origin story. Fountain of wealth.

I have some concerns about the catchphrase here. Isn’t there some legal implication by branding the project as a bank ?

Otherwise the new identity looks nice, love the chosen logo, minimalism is the way to go.

It’s more of an example announcing our ambition than a definitive catchphrase. We don"t plan on larping Trevee as a bank until all is legally set up
